I’m a conceptual explorer, visualiser, designer and illustrator focusing on experimentation with historical iconography to express contemporary society.
I use symbols as a starting point for creating illustration to examine what guides us - simultaneously exploring the origins and the possible futures of imagery in contemporary life. Symbols by their nature are a shorthand way to communicate universal ideas. My practice is situated between digital design and traditional illustration, and questions issues of gender politics/gender equality and the potential for change.
My project depicts mythological female spiritual figures and challenges the dominant and patriarchal power structures within major religions and society. The figures I have reimagined are: Hecate, Mami Wata, Venus, Eve, Amaterasu and Kali. Each of these has a unique duality representing both creation and destruction.
My project is an immersive installation inviting the viewer to enter the circular temple for a moment of contemplation, introspection and rebalance.
My work is titled An iron fist in a velvet glove, communicating the idea that femininity can be powerful.
