Kaitlyn Wood, Velvet Helmet. Branding, 2018.
My practice involves graphic design and image-making. I focus on experimenting with typography and images to juxtapose serious issues against a more palatable design, in order to widely initiate a dialogue around attitudes towards sexual assault. The comparative dichotomy of Greek mythology and modern victim-blaming produces interesting insights that I have deeply explored.
While also creating deeply meaningful pieces for important issues, I also enjoy experimenting with image-making for aesthetic and branding purposes. I also use a lot of mixed media. By doing this my aim is to create eye-catching experimental pieces. I created branding for a fictional band, ‘Velvet Helmet’. It was a way for me to experiment and create imagery that would be incredibly important for someone else.
