Mahalia Kluwer, Ēst Restaurant (a Still Life) branding strategy, conceptual design: rubber fruit, digital prints, tin cans, a rubber lobster, 2018.
Hi! It’s Mahalia, I’m an ideas woman and love to show this through graphic design, illustration and conceptual design. Through my design work I feel that I always add a touch of my personality, I like to make my work warm, organic and accessible yet in a unique and sometimes kooky way. My body of work for the Capstone studio is devoted to my Latvian heritage. I have created a set of branding for a fictional restaurant called ‘ēst,’ located in the heart of Latvia’s capital Riga, the food is inspired by their resources and traditional cuisines. They use a lot of preserved and tinned foods hence why I have featured the cans with my designs on them. I have instinctively created this with an Australian flare, the combination of these two cultures is shown through the colour way and choice of typography etc. The featured props are symbolic of my heritage mix, and are displayed in aim for the piece to appear similar to a dramatic and romanticised still life.
