Michelle Chandra, Karya - Pattern Series. Pattern design, Image making: Inkjet-printing on fabric, 2018.

I am a graphic designer and I am currently focusing my work on image-making & branding. I would describe myself as someone who is passionate about creating new innovative design with my creativity, knowledge & skills in visual communication. My practice includes publication, branding, image-making, prints, & packaging design as a way to explore & learn a broader understanding about the variety of designs. In this project, I was inspired by my country's rich cultural heritage, exploring Batik further & want to recreate it into a modern-illustrative pattern by utilizing Indonesia's popular icon as well as its natural wonders as the pattern of the Batik itself. I use illustration & pattern making as the main ideas, then having them printed/applied on wearable goods along with the brand name that will be given to finalize the product. Through this project, I'd like to change & broaden out people's perspective about Batik. A lot of people still see Batik as something untrendy & old. Generally, I want people to understand that we should embrace & be proud of our cultural heritage.
