Olivia Sagona, Yibblet Designs. textile design/t-shirt design: ink on nylon, 2018.

My practice involves working with textiles/shirt design printing, exploring the option of brand identity that goes along with it. I use visual communication as a way of understanding and exploring the options that this medium has to offer. My practice consists of service design thinking and brand experience – exploring issues of identity and self expression through fashion. For the grad show, I decided to create a series of t-shirt designs. I thought it would be an interesting area to explore, as t-shirts as a medium offer a variety of differing artistic options. People use fashion to express themselves and one could regard the t-shirt as a blank canvas on which you could make mobile, portable artwork. The basic tools involved in the creation of this work involved plain t-shirts and iron on patches, where possible – some were created by an online service. There were multiple iterations of the final works – I kept creating new designs for the set, changing colours and layout frequently. In terms of communities of practice, my final work could be seen to be situated in both the fashion practice of design as well as in brand identity.
