Yusa Cui, Night Time. Poster design: Vinyl, ink on paper, 2018.
I’m a visual artist, an illustrator and a graphic designer. I create images as a way of thinking and expressing myself. My practice consists of illustration, typography, poster designs and publication design in order to visualise ideas and respond to the world around me.
My project Night Time is a series of posters designed for the song Night Time by the Japanese indie trio band The Fin.( the dot is included in the band name). The project contains two parts: the first is an installation of a series of multi-sized posters, the second is an alternative version of the posters with the same visual elements integrated into post cards for people to take away. The two parts are playing different roles with a common visual style. I chose to do this project because music is an important part of my life and it greatly infuses my creativity. Therefore I tend to transfer my auditive experience through visual aesthetics. These posters contain imagery inspired by the song’s lyrics, displayed in a dynamic way intended to embody a sense of swaying relating to this chill-wave song.
