Handle with Care

I am a Chinese designer from Malaysia. My practice is focusing on English capital serif typography design. The inspiration for this set of fonts is based on the Chinese digital characters 'Song' or 'Ming'. With these I hope to discover my identity and background. The cross elements of the diverse cultures which I had experienced inspired me to design this set of English font with Chinese character features. I take the challenge to focus on the topic which I am not familiar with it. My practice involves ink print e.g. poster and interactive form of installation art in this type of font design.

我是一個來自馬來西亞的華人設計師。這展覽作品是英文字體設計，靈感是來自中文電腦字體「明體」（也可以叫宋體）。設計字體的原因是為了更深的去感受我自己從小到大中英文化融合的環境，接受各種多元化的文化和價值觀的生活。我想透過設計一組有中文字體特徵的英文字體，去摸索自己的身分認同同時留下我曾經在這個校園的痕跡。設計字體對我來說是者四年來裡最有挑戰性的課題。最後的呈現方式選擇用海報和互動形式的裝置藝術。
